The Right Scent Candle Company

There’s something special about walking through a market and being drawn in by a beautiful scent… the kind that stops you in your tracks, sparks a memory, or makes you smile without even realising why.
That’s exactly what you’ll find when you discover The Right Scent Candle Company, created by Joan Smith ❤️
From Hobby to Market Stall
What started as a simple candle-making kit back in 2022 quickly turned into something much more for Joan. After falling in love with the process — experimenting with fragrances, colours, and techniques — weekends soon became dedicated to crafting candles.
As her creations improved, Joan began gifting them to friends and family… and the response was clear: these candles needed to be shared more widely.
So in November 2023, she attended her very first craft fair — and hasn’t looked back since.
Now in her third year of trading, Joan has built a small business rooted in curiosity, creativity, and a genuine passion for getting things just right.
The Art (and Science) of Candle Making
You might think candle making is straightforward — but Joan will tell you there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.

From achieving the perfect scent throw to ensuring each candle burns safely and evenly, every detail matters. Even choosing the right wick can be surprisingly complex — with far more variations than most people realise.
It’s this dedication to quality that keeps customers coming back time and time again.
More Than a Candle — A Memory
What really makes The Right Scent Candle Company stand out is the thought behind each fragrance.
Every candle name is carefully chosen by Joan to evoke a feeling, a place, or a moment in time. Whether it’s Summer Beach, inspired by childhood seaside days, or the fresh, zesty bestseller Lemon Grove, each scent is designed to transport you somewhere meaningful.
It’s not just about how a candle smells — it’s about how it makes you feel.
And there’s more to come, with a new fragrance Bluebell Woods launching soon, alongside plans for larger candles and travel tins.
Market Days & Meaningful Moments
For Joan, one of the most rewarding parts of running her business is attending craft fairs — often alongside her mum — meeting customers, sharing stories, and watching people experience her candles for the first time.

There’s nothing quite like seeing someone’s reaction when they find their scent… even if it sometimes comes with a few funny faces along the way!
Rooted in Emsworth
Emsworth holds a special place in Joan’s story.
From childhood walks around the harbour to ice creams by the water, it’s a place filled with memories — and now, somewhere she loves trading and connecting with the community.
It’s that sense of familiarity, friendliness, and support that makes being part of the local scene so meaningful.
